UCAM and Cambridge Biocapital Forge Strategic Alliance to Accelerate tech Transfer and Scientific Entrepreneurship in Spain

Press Release —

New partnership will focus on bolstering the scientific start-up ecosystem in the Community of Madrid, connecting research-led ventures with global investment networks.

MURCIA, Spain – 25 September 2025 – The Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), through its high-tech incubator UCAM HiTech, has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Cambridge Biocapital to bolster the university's scientific entrepreneurial ecosystem, with a particular focus on the Community of Madrid.

Both institutions share the objective of fostering science-based entrepreneurship and synergising their capabilities to drive the creation and development of innovative, research-led enterprises.

Under this agreement, and drawing upon extensive experience within the scientific entrepreneurial ecosystems of London, Cambridge, and Oxford, Cambridge Biocapital will provide pivotal support to UCAM HiTech in establishing it as a leading national authority in scientific enterprise, with a special emphasis on amplifying its influence and impact in the Community of Madrid.

Cambridge Biocapital will participate in the technical-strategic evaluation of projects applying to the incubator, co-design advanced training programmes in scientific and technological entrepreneurship at UCAM, offer mentorship and strategic counsel to new spin-offs in their initial phases, and conduct active scouting for high-potential initiatives aligned with UCAM HiTech’s strategy.

This collaboration will facilitate the exchange of knowledge between academia and industry, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of UCAM's scientific start-ups and streamlining their access to investment networks and international ecosystems.

María Dolores García, President of UCAM, highlighted:

“This agreement represents a decisive step to consolidate UCAM HiTech as a national benchmark in scientific entrepreneurship; together we are going to strengthen the support for our entrepreneurial researchers, especially in a key region like Madrid, facilitating that more ideas emerging from the university become successful companies at the service of society.”

For Andrea Martos Esteban, Founder and Managing Partner of Cambridge Biocapital:

“We are pleased to formalise this alliance to which we contribute, following our international experience, strategic mentorship and access to global networks, to accelerate technology transfer from the university to the market, driving the creation of new science and technology-based start-ups with a real impact on society.”
